Advisory Council Summit & Think Tank Retreat
The “Road to 2020” and the official inception to planning AFRƎE culture’s inaugural launch began during the platform’s Advisory Council Summit & Think Tank Retreat, which took place from February 20 – 24th 2019 at Jnane Tamsna in Marrakech. Co-Founders, Meryanne Loum-Martin and Mashariki Williamson hosted a hand-selected group of distinguished experts and professionals in various creative fields to begin laying the groundwork for the new cultural platform celebrating and supporting the talent, diversity and global influence of Africa and the African diaspora.
The 4-day open-air working retreat was held among the gardens of Loum-Martin’s hotel in the Marrakech Palmeraie. The retreat included moderated talks, working sessions and curated tours exploring the rich culture of the local art scene including 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent, and performance at the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden (MACAAL) by the spellbinding South African trio Dear Ribane, whom we are proud to count among our council.
